AL MAKTOUM CHALLENGE ROUND I - AF MATHMOON’S TOP PERFORMANCE

MEYDAN (UAE), 5th January 2017

Gr. I PA, 5yos+, 1,600m, $60,000

Winner of the Dubai Kahayla Classic (Gr. I PA) 2016 and second the year before, Af Mathmoon (Af Albahar) demolished the opposition once in the home straight. He won by eight and a half lengths in a record time of 1’45’’55.

This Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum owned horse defeated Rb Burn (Majd Al Arab), trained by Éric Lemartinel who discovered the dirt at Meydan. By taking the third place, Manark (Mahabb) did a good comeback. For a longtime at the back of the lot, Bon Baiser de Faust (Madjani) did a very good end of race to finish fourth.

A first success

Jim Crowley wore for the first time Sheikh Hamdan’s silks as first jockey. He said: “It is wonderful to start like this and avoid problems. We were a little hidden at a moment but once we had an opening, I did not hesitate in asking him to go and he did. I must admit his capacity to accelerate surprised me, he was by far the best tonight.”

Big French origins

Af Mathmoon was bred in the United Arab Emirates by Khalid Khalifa Al Nabooda. Af Albahar (Amer), the sire of Af Mathmoon, stands in France at the Haras de Thouars (47). His crop has a high level of success at the Group level. His dam, the ‛FR’ Temptayshuhn (Arawak d’Aroco), is a sister of D’jadie de Téoul (Djouras Tu). The latter produced good horses such as  Djavius des Landes (Octavius), winner of eight races including the Coupe d’Europe and of the UAE, at Chantilly in front of Azadi (Darike); Opale du Croate (Dormane), second of the crack Al Dahma (Amer) in the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy (Gr. I PA), but also Aristote du Croate (Dormane), winner of Son Altesse Royale le Prince héritier Moulay El Hassan (Gr. III PA) at Casablanca. It is also the close family of Nieshan (Akbar), a winner of the Al Maktoum Challenge Round III (Gr. I PA) three times, of the President of The UAE Cup and the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 (Gr. I PA). It is the same origin as the great Fatma detailed in a previous edition of The French Purebred Arabian available here: http://jourdegalop.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/FPA37_201609.pdf.
