QATAR DERBY - TAYF RUNS FOR THE EMIR’S SWORD

DOHA (QA), 29th December 2016

Gr. II PA, 4yos, 2,000 m, $150,000

Tayf (Amer) won with class the Qatar Derby (Gr. II PA), his first big success. The Umm Qarn owned colt was ridden perfectly by Olivier Peslier, who waited until the last moment to come and take the advantage surely by a neck in front of Mith’haf Athbah (Amer) and Spaghetti (Snoopi).

Tayf had started in Europe by a second place, beaten by a nose, in the Qatar Derby des Pur-Sang Arabes de 4ans (Gr. I PA), and then won at La Teste, in the Prix Dormane (Gr. III PA). At Doncaster, when he could have won the President of the UAE Cup (Gr. I PA), he had jumped away close to the post, which made him lose the first place. Then, he came third of the Qatar Arabian World Cup (Gr. I PA). His trainer, Alban de Mieulle, said: “He is a horse with whom you need to come at the very end, otherwise he has a tendency to stop, thinking that the work is done. Olivier Peslier rode him very well. He is still immature but has a lot of capacities. The next objective should be the Emir’s Sword.”
