INTERNATIONAL MALAZGIRT TROPHY - AN EASY RENEWAL FOR MURAAQIB ENDS WITH SUCCESS
Gr. I PA - 3yos+ - 1,600m - € 110,500
A quadruple Group I PA winner before this International Malazgirt Trophy (Gr. I PA), Muraaqib (Munjiz) was the one to watch out for during the big Turkish race meeting. The horse, trained by François Rohaut, never faltered and won easily under François-Xavier Bertras, pocketing the fifth Group I PA of his career.
Eau de Muguet (Nayef Al Khalidiah) led the field along the Istanbul track, tracked on his outside by Jabal Kassyoun (Burning Sand), the other French runner in the race. Muraaqib found himself in the hustle just behind them. In the final straight, Jabal Kassyoun came up to join the leader and launched the attack. However Muraaqib followed him easily to then neatly dispose of him. Trained by Thomas Fourcy, Jabal Kassyoun held on to second place without being worried by the Turkish runner Gümbürgümbür (Kaizbert), who made up ground to finish.

Over his best distance
Fourth last time out in the Shadwell Dubai International Stakes at Newbury (Gr. I PA), Muraaqib set things to right here, much to the satisfaction of his trainer, François Rohaut: “At Newbury he had too many things go against him, above all the ground which was very heavy, and the distance which was his limit. That’s why we brought him to run over a mile on good ground today. Running over 1,400m, 1,600m is his thing. Today he has strolled in, he’s just had a gallop. He has a lot of speed, like his dam. The pedigree shows!”
Muraaqib should next be seen in the Persian Gulf this winter, as explained by François Rohaut: “If Sheikh Hamdan is in agreement, he should go to the big race at Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayhan Jewel Crown (Gr. I PA). We try to run in the big races such as these and Sheikh Hamdan has given us what we need to do so. It’s then up to us to train the horses”.
The bloodline of Fleur d’Avril
Muraaqib was bred by Shadwell and is trained by François Rohaut, who also had the sire of Muraaqib, Munjiz (Kesberoy) in his stable.
Muraaqib is currently the best foal out of his dam, Tashreefat (Bengali d’Albret), a tough racemare who finished second in the Liwa Oasis (Gr. I PA). She has also produced Barnamaj (No Risk Al Maury), a useful colt who was recently second in the Jebel Ali Racecourse Za’abeel International Stakes (Gr. I PA) at Newbury, for the same trainer and the same colours.
The second dam, Seglaoui (Tidjani), is out of the same mare as Saklawi (Dormane), who was a two time winner and multiple placed for the same colours. This maternal family is that of Fleur d’Avril (Meke), on of the foundation mares of the French Stud Book. Muraaqib was broken in and pre-trained at Haras du Saubouas.
