Qatar Total Arabian Trophy des Poulains - The victory of Rajeh

SAINT-CLOUD (FRA), 29th September 2017

Gr. I PA - 3 year old colts - 2,000m - € 100,000

The victory of Rajeh (Jaafer Asf) in the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Poulains (Gr. I PA) will mark a turning point in the evolution of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s stable, who was present at Saint-Cloud. Rajeh is from the first crop of horses bred by Al Shahania at Haras des Cruchettes in Normandy. He is also by their resident sire, Jaafer Asf (Amer), who has done very well from a small book of mares. Finally, Rajeh attests to the Sheikh’s volition to have more horses in France to aim for the good three year old races. Mission accomplished.

Above the rest

A smart winner of the Prix Chéri Bibi (Gr. III PA), Rajeh has lived up to the high regard that his connections have for him, staying unbeaten from three starts. Somoud (Munjiz) led in the early stages, followed by Arghad (Munjiz). Rajeh sat mid-division before pulling clear halfway down the straight. He won in an impressive manner by a three length margin. Rodess du Loup (Dahess) finished a good second by short margin in front of Goumoh (Jaafer Asf).

A 100% Pau podium

Français Rohaut’s runners took first and third place. The Pau based trainer explained: “We knew that he was a good horse, and he is even more impressive as he matures. He’s improved from race to race. He’s got no issues, easy and a pleasure to train. We are especially happy that this win has come in the presence of his owner and breeder, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani. Goumoh had disappointed me at Deauville, after debuting well, and we felt after that he needed blinkers. He is a good horse, but 2,000 meters is a bit far for him and he’ll be better over a mile next year. These two are both by Jaafer Asf, a sire who has had good results”.

Charles Gourdain, trainer of the second, commented: “Rodess du Loup keeps improving. He’s a bit keen so we took the blinkers off so that he would relax. When he will learn to breathe he will be capable of great things. He’s a good horse, he’s tough and he can finish well. This second place is encouraging”.

Jaafer Asf’s excellent statistics

Rajeh was bred by Al Shahania. He is by the stallion Jaafer Asf (Amer) who won multiple Group Is PA including the Emir’s Sword and the Dubai Kahayla Classic. Jaafer Asf has only had three runners in France, and two are already black type! He is also the sire of Shabih Alreeh (winner of the Qatar Guineas, and 3rd in the Qatar International Cup (Gr. I PA). This stallion is based in France at Al Shahania’s stud. Rajeh is the best living offspring out of Nelka (Tidjani), who has produced another winner for François Rohaut, Nakador (Dormane), but at a lower level.

The second dam, Naiada Al Maury (Baroud III), produced the useful Nirwan (Dormane), winner of the Maktoum Challenge Round II (Gr. I PA) and the President Cup (Gr. I PA), and Noreen (Dormane), winner of the Hatta International Stakes (Gr. I PA). This is the bloodline of Nevada II (Djanor), who is none other than the dam of the sire Chéri Bibi (Baroud III).
