3 YEAR OLDS QATAR DERBY - A big strike for Easter de Faust

3 YEAR OLDS QATAR DERBY - A big strike for Easter de Faust

DOHA (QAT), 30th DECEMBER 2017

Gr. III PA - 3 year olds - 1,600m - $ 100,000

Winning a Group I PA during the French season and then going on to repeat in Qatar is always difficult, but especially so for a 3 year old filly.

In the paddock prior to the Purebred Arabian Derby for 3 year olds, on the 30th December at Doha, Easter de Faust (Mahabb) did not look to be in her best form. Nonetheless, once on the track, she proved that she deserved her favourite status. Previously under the care of Élisabeth Bernard, the winner of the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches dominated proceedings. After travelling wide in the early stages, she took the lead and none of the other runners could get near her in the straight. Al Kabeer (No Risk Al Maury) was second by over three lengths.

Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi, her current trainer, commented: "I am very pleased with her performance. It’s a huge achievement to win here after being Champion filly of her generation in France. It’s all changed for her:  the training conditions, the environment, the climate… She had a break for a month after her victory in France. I am delighted to see how well she’s adapted to the track at Doha. For now, we are looking towards the Emir’s Sword meeting and the 4 year old fillies race." Her owner’s son, Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari, explained: "She is really very talented. We have had a lot of success with horses bought by Gérard Larrieu." The Chantilly Bloodstock agent has bought several smart horses for these silks, such as The Blue Eye (winner of the Qatar Derby). In 2017, along with Easter de Faust, he bought Al Muraqabah (Duke of Marmalade), winner of the Qatar Oaks (local Gr. III).

The niece of Have Fun

Gérard Larrieu bred Easter de Faust with his brother Jean-Paul. She is the most successful offspring of her dam, Ayisha de Faust (Al Sakbe), a daughter of Gabie de Carrère (Manganate), who finished third in the Prix du Sultanat d’Oman. Gabie de Carrère is the dam of Have Fun (WF High Voltage), winner of the Derby Trial Stakes (Gr. II PA), and Rainbow de Faust (Darike), third in the Emirates Arabian International Stakes (Gr. II PA). The third dam, Nerva du Cassou (Baroud III), is also the dam of Elios de Carrère (Manganate) and Nizam (Amer), winner of fifteen races including the President Cup and the Emir’s Sword (Gr Is PA). Danie du Cassou (Dahr), a daughter of Nerva du Cassou, is the dam of another champion, Dahess (Amer), a twenty-eight time winner, including three wins in the Zaabeel International Stakes (Gr. I PA) at Newbury.
