AL MAKTOUM CHALLENGE ROUND I - The American Champion, Paddy's Day, back on top

AL MAKTOUM CHALLENGE ROUND I - The American Champion, Paddy's Day, back on top

MEYDAN (UAE), 11th  JANUARY 2018

Gr. I PA - 5 year olds and over - 1,600m - $ 60,000

Disappointing in two starts on the turf and going right-handed at Abu Dhabi racetrack, the American champion Paddy's Day (Burning Sand) was back in his ideal conditions in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round i(Gr. I PA): a dirt track and left-handed.

Very comfortable on this track, he travelled up on the flanks of the leader, RB Torch (TH Richie). This latter began to weaken in the closing stages of the home straight, allowing Paddy's Day to take the lead and holds off a strong finish from the "FR" runner, Barnamaj (No Risk Al Maury), who went down by a neck. Cakouet de Bozouls (Dahess), another "FR", took third place at a distance.

A long list of achievements

With this victory, Paddy's Day was taking the eighth Group I PA of his career. He has also won the American Arabian Triple Crown at the Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Festival three times. Paddy's Day recently changed trainer, moving from Scott Powell’s yard to Doug Watson’s, based in Dubai. It was Scott Powell who spoke to the Dubai Racing Channel after the race: "I am delighted, really. Nothing was going the right way for him before, and today he showed his class. He’s a world class horse. We gave him his chance. Doug Watson has done a great job with him and Pat Dobbs rode him very well. I think that this is a great opportunity to show the Purebred Arabians bred in the United States can compete at this level. »

Burning Sand’s success at Meydan

Paddy's Day is a son of Burning Sand (San Lou Romirz), who has been Champion Purebred Arabian sire no less than nine times in the United States, and is the sire of multiple winners at the top level, such as TM Fred Texas, winner of the Dubai Kahayla Classic. The dam of Paddy's Day, Ak Loretta (Virgule Al Maury), won her maiden at Araphaoe Park racetrack, in the State of Colorado. His second dam, Lore (Wiking), won her first three starts, including the Delaware Firecracker Futurity Fillies at Delaware Park racetrack. She is a full sister to  Mucho Caliente (Tomanchie), winner of nineteen races from forty-five start. She is also the dam of Lore Nivour (Nivour de Cardonne), a winner.
