SHADWELL - COUPE DU SUD-OUEST DES PUR-SANG ARABES - TAYMOUR TURNS BACK MURAAQIB

LA TESTE-DE-BUCH (FRA), 3rd July 2018

Gr. III PA - 4-year-olds and up - 1,900m - € 20,000

.His debut effort last year proved to be a timid affair, but Taymour (Mahabb) has taken his game to a whole new level this season. The winner of the Prix Al Sakbe, which was underscored by a remarkable finish, the Yas Horse Racing runner retained his unbeaten record for 2018 by adding to that success in the Shadwell - Coupe du Sud-Ouest des Pur-sang Arabes (Gr. III PA). His main victim on this occasion was the François Rohaut champion Muraaqib (Munjiz). Hajres (Nizam) completed the finishing order in third.

Taymour played the waiting game in the small field before making his effort in the middle of the track. Leading with 100-meters to go, he then withstood the thrust of Muraaqib by the minimum margin.

After holding every chance, Hajres showed his battling qualities in abundance before eventually losing second.

VERY MUCH AN IMMATURE TYPE

Antoine de Watrigant, the trainer of Taymour, was over the moon in the wake of his protégé’s effort and said: "I’m pleasantly surprised and the horse amazed me as the François Rohaut runner [editor's note: Muraaqib] is one of the best horses in the world. I’m quite surprised that he beat these type of horses as he is a big baby and still very immature. In addition he is a little bit fragile everywhere. He’s only a four-year-old yet he imposed himself in the style of a top class performer."

The Yas Horse Racing manager Thierry Delègue added: "We had great faith in Taymour as he works very well in the mornings. He did something incredible on his seasonal debut in the Prix Al Sakbe. Effectively, the ground on that occasion was unraceable yet he was able to come from last to first; you also need to take into account that no horse during that meeting was able to make up two lengths during a race. He finished as if racing on a sound surface and showed that he had the wow factor. This race obviously left its mark and we allowed him the necessary recovery time. Looking back, it owes nothing to chance that he was entered in this race and a Group I PA at Newbury. We are toying of going down the British route although we will need to see how he comes out of his race. He needs to mature as he can be very anxious one moment and very relaxed the next. It may be a bit premature but his future is ahead of him and we must take care not to put a spanner in the works. He’s a magnificent to look at: an oil painting as well as being extremely well bred. It was a good day for the stable [Belqees had earlier won the Shadwell - Critérium des Pouliches (Gr. II PA)]. »

THE BROTHER OF MUSHRAE

Djezika (Dormane), the dam of the Taymour, numbered the Prix d’Abu Dhabi at Deauville among her wins. She forged her reputation as the mother of the champion Mushrae (Munjiz): the winner of the 2013 edition of the Qatar Arabian World Cup (Gr. I PA). Trained by Jean-Pierre Totain, the latter carried the colours of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. She has also generated the classy Nahee (Bibi de Carrère): the Qrec UK Arabian Derby (Gr. I PA) victor at Newmarket; plus the triple French winning Awam (Munjiz). The latter was subsequently exported to the United Arab Emirates and ran third in the Maktoum Challenge Round II (Gr. I PA). The second dam, Cherifa (Chéri Bibi), has a rich heritage as she comes from the family of the champion Djebbel (Djelfor). The third dam, Managhi (Saint Laurent), is a full sister to the champion sire Manganate.
