ARABIAN TRIPLE CROWN ROUND 2 - Harrab makes a successful debut in the United Arab Emirates

Gr3 PA - 4-year-olds - 2,200m - AED 300,000

Formerly with Frédéric Sanchez, Harrab (Bibi de Carrere) joined the stable of the United Arab Emirates-based Mohamed Ali during the winter. Racing in first time blinkers,

there was a pleasing manner to the success of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan runner in the Arabian Triple Crown Round 2 (Gr3 PA).

Ebhaar (Séraphin du Paon) set the pace for his stablemate in the same ownership, Rb Lam Tara (General), with the latter handily poised in his slipstream. The future winner raced in fourth along the rails. Rb Lam Tara made a forward move going to the final bend and she seemed to be travelling like a winner. However, her stride gradually started to shorten and Harrab capitalised by delivering his finishing kick which carried him to victory by three-quarters of a length. After racing two wide for a long way, Margham Dubai (Munjiz) courageously ran on for second. The favourite Rb Lam Tara was a further three and a quarter lengths away in third, and was undoubtedly found wanting in terms of stamina.

Richard Mullen, the winning rider, said: "Hats off to the trainer. Harrab was meticulously prepared for his United Arab Emirates debut after arriving from France. His win gains added kudos – granted that he was keeping exalted company owing to the presence of Rb Lam Tara. He proved himself to be a tough customer."

Out of a Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches second. Bred by Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Harrab’s dam, Waahiba (Akbar), was second to Djainka des Forges (Kerbella) in the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches (Gr1 PA) at Saint-Cloud.

She is a half-sister to a few other good performers in the same ownership and notably

Areem (Mahaab), whose multiple PA Gr1 wins took in the National Day Cup and the Liwa Oasis at this same Abu Dhabi course, and to Gaira (Akbar). Unbeaten in three starts for Robert Litt, the latter won the Trophée des Écuries Royales (Gr1 PA) at Toulouse. This is the close family of Sardan (Mahabb), herself a triple winner at Toulouse and third in the Liwa Oasis (Gr1 PA) at Abu Dhabi. This is one of the bloodlines which has descended from Nevada II (Djanor).
