SECOND DERBY WIN SETS THE SCENE FOR THE RISE OF HAYYAN

DONCASTER (UK), SEPTEMBER 14th 2019

PRESIDENT OF THE UAE CUP - UK ARABIAN DERBY

Gr1 PA - 4-y-olds - 2,000m - € 76,800

SECOND DERBY WIN SETS THE SCENE FOR THE RISE OF HAYYAN

Hayyan (Munjiz) tasted his first Gr1 PA success in the Qatar Derby des Pur-Sang Arabes de 4ans at Chantilly three months ago. The Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan representative also succeeded in following up in the British version of this event on the Doncaster St Leger card and, in so doing, he emulated the achievements of Nafees (Azadi) and Rodess du Loup (Dahess). Just as he had done at Chantilly, his stablemate in the same ownership, Ibn Gadir (Mared Al Sahra), again set the tempo. Going to the final stages, the winner proved the proverbial immovable object – despite the promising challenge laid down by Melabi (Dahess). The French trio filled the first three places.

A COLT ON THE UPGRADE

Hayyan is certainly a class act but he is far from being straight forward. Consequently, his rise to the top owes much to the work put in by Frédéric Sanchez and his team. Speaking alongside the YAS Horse Racing’s manager, Thierry Delègue, Frédéric Sanchez affirmed: « It’s possible that he may have one more race this season, but we will need to discuss what happens next once we see how the horse comes out of the race. I’m delighted to have won both the French Derby and the UK version with him. » Ioritz Medizabal, the winning rider, added of Hayyan: « He’s a very talented colt but he isn’t an easy ride. Sometimes, he is much too keen in the early stages but the colt settled really well today. »

A BREEDING RECORD WITH A 100 PER CENT SUCCESS RATE

The dam of Hayyan, Dahwa (Tidjani), won the Prix de l’Élevage (Gr2 PA). Her first foal,, Thabit (Munjiz), captured the Coupe du Sud-Ouest des Pur-Sang Arabes (Gr3 PA). Her second product, Bandar, (Munjiz), made his mark in the Grand Prix de Sa Majesté le Roi Mohammed VI (Gr3 PA). Najah (Munjiz), her third offspring, took the Prix Nefta (Gr2 PA) and the French Arabian Breeders' Challenge-Pouliches (Gr2 PA). The latter was also third in the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches (Gr1 PA). Hayyan is the mare’s fourth product. Ten black type performers trace back to the grandam Amidou Douzaia (Chéri Bibi). Her progeny of note include the likes of Salaamah (Njewman): successful in The Emirates Equestrian Federation Stakes (Gr2 PA) at Newbury. Other examples include Aliaa (Djelfor), the dam of the l'Emirates Championship (Gr1 PA) winning Abhaar (Al Nasr), plus Aryaan (Kesberoy) who generated the Al Maktoum Challenge R1 (Gr1 PA) and the President Cup (Gr1 PA) victor Naseem (Mahabb). The great grandam foaled Tessadite (Tidjani), who was third in The President of The UAE Challenge Derby at Newmarket.
