PRIX CHÉRI BIBI - Shadad breaks the ice for the Al Shaqab Racing-Charles Gourdain team

Gr3 PA - 3-year-olds - Colts & geldings - 1,600m (1m) - € 25,000

As a result of his win in the Prix Chéri Bibi (Gr3 PA), Shadad (TM Fred Texas) gave added kudos to the performance of Ajmajdah (TM Fred Texas) on the same card. The latter had beaten Charles Gourdain runner on her debut, and she also proved successful in the Prix Nevada II (Gr3 PA) earlier in the afternoon. Shadad was seeking his first success after being placed four times in as many runs. He achieved this after a smooth trip before out-battling his Charles Gourdain stablemate Goingfor Al Baraka (TM Fred Texas). The latter was coming off a win at Bordeaux.

Charles Gourdain lands a 1-2. The Pau trainer has enjoyed remarkable success in the PA sector during the course of several seasons. He said: "The ground was very testing. However,

a battled-hardened Shadad proved to be very game by securing the win. He’s a colt who has improved from race to race. I’m very happy to have trained my first winner for Al Shaqab Racing. Goingfor Al Baraka, the second, is unquestionably a quality colt. However, he is less experienced. He carries the colours of a Qatari owner noted for his passion for the sport, Amjad Taiss Aljumaily. They are two colts which should make their mark next. Before then,

the pair will both have a quiet winter."

A nephew of Nizam. Shadad hails from the Al Shaqab Racing breeding academy. The first and second in this race are sons of TM Fred Texas (Burning Sand). The same Qatari stable stand this stallion at the Haras de Thouars. From a total of nineteen French PA runners to date, the sire has yielded eight black type performers. The dam Nasrat (Amer) is a full sister to Nizam (Amer), whose roll of honour comprises the President Cup, the Zaabeel International Stakes and The Emir’s Sword (Grs1 PA). The grandam is none other than the much heralded Nerva du Cassou (Baroud III). A prolific producer in the breeding shed, her lineage has given rise to a number of Gr1 PA performers such as Dahess (Amer), the world’s top PA performer in 2007. This extensive list includes Muntasar (Majd Al Arab) – the author of the Qatar International Trophy and Prix Manganate (Grs1 PA) double; the French Arabian Breeders' Cup Classic (Gr1 PA) winning Al Fatih (Amer); whereas Rasheeqah (Amer) made her mark in the French Arabian Breeders’ Challenge (Pouliches de 4ans) at Longchamp (Gr1 PA); Samaa (Majd Al Arab) distinguished herself in the Arabian Trophy des Pouliches (Gr1 PA); and Kerra (Kesberoy) notched thirteen career successes and chief amongst them were the Coupe d’Europe du Cheval Arabe, the Prix Dragon (twice), the Dubai International Stakes at Kempton and the International Arabian Cup Distaff; Parador (Dormane) kept the flag flying by landing eleven career wins including t0he Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 (Gr1 PA); Dorfa (Dormane) did her bit in The Amir’s Sword, Gr1 PA); Al Mujahaz (Hafid du Bac), delivered in the Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy and the H.H. The Heir Apparent Sword (Grs1 PA); and Rijm (Azadi) hit the target in The French Arabian Breeders' Challenge Classic (Gr1 PA).
