GRAND PRIX DE SON ALTESSE ROYALE LE PRINCE HÉRITIER MOULAY EL HASSAN - Big weight fails to anchor Deryan

CASABLANCA (MOR), NOVEMBER 17th 2019

Gr3 PA - 3-year-olds and up - 1,900m - DH 900,000

Having scored twice previously in PA Group class, Deryan (Mahabb) recorded a third win at this level in the wake of his success in the Grand Prix de Son Altesse Royale le Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan (Gr3 PA). He had been starved of success since taking the Prix Dormane (Gr3 PA) at La Teste-de-Buch on April 26th. Smartly into his stride, the Yas Horse Racing Management runner proved a bit keen in the early stages. However, his rider Ioritz Mendizabal, managed to keep his mount racing close to the place in third. The future winner

took the lead down the backstretch and ran out a cosy winner – despite his 61 kilos (9st 8lb) impost. Kerchera (Kerbella), the Haras de Mandore graduate, managed to take second in receipt of three kilos (7lb) from the winner. Another French-bred distaffer, Adi de Saint Lon (Al Saoudi), occupied the third and final place on the podium, having relegated Shalaa (Dahess) and Syndella (Scoubidou de Carrère) to fourth and fifth.

Dubai: a possible destination. Didier Guillemin, the winning trainer, said: "Deryan certainly did it very nicely, and he clearly likes racing on sand. Judged on his recent sixth place in the Qatar Arabian World Cup (Gr1), he came into the race with a first class chance, and the horse fully met our expectations. We will see how he comes out of the race, but Dubai is a possible port of call, and subject to him giving all the right vibes."

The brother of Shahm. Deryan was bred in France by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nayhan. The dam Haboob (Akbar) was second in the Qatar French Arabian Breeders’ Cup for three-year-old fillies (Gr1 PA) at ParisLongchamp. She has already generated the President of the UAE Cup - Coupe d'Europe des Chevaux Arabes (Gr1 PA) victor Shahm (Mahabb); and Yathrib (Munjiz), placed in the both the Critérium des Pouliches and the Qatar Prix de l’Élevage (Gr2s PA).

The grandam was responsible for producing Salaamah (Njewman), the Emirates Equestrian Federation Stakes (Gr2 PA) victress at Newbury; Aliaa (Djelfor), the dam of The Emirates Championship (Gr1 PA) winning Abhaar (Al Nasr); Aryaan (Kesberoy), who foaled Naseem (Mahabb) – successful in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 and The President Cup (Gr1s PA). Another of Haboob’s half-sisters, Dahwa (Tidjani), captured the Prix de l’Élevage (Gr2 PA), in addition to producing Najah (Munjiz), who is among the better four-year-old fillies this season, having conquered her elders in the Prix Nefta (Gr2 PA) on her seasonal debut. Dahwa’s other progeny of note are Thabit (Munjiz) and Bandar (Munjiz).
