PRIX THE PRESIDENT OF THE UAE CUP - Aoun defends his title

CASABLANCA (MOR), 17th November 2019

L PA - 4-year-olds and up - 2,100m - DH 560,000

Successful in this same race last season, Aoun (Mahabb) gained a repeat success in the Prix The President of the UAE Cup (L PA). After starting on the outside, the Yas Horse Racing Management flagbearer sat in second place after flanking the front running Alma de Saint Lon (Asraa Min Albarq). He then cruised into the lead down the backstretch before giving his opponents the slip and gaining a clear win. Djarabb des Forges (Sarrab) and Enigma Al Coyan (Hart Al Khalidiah) respectively snared second and third.

Adaptability is his middle name. Thierry Delègue, racing manager of Yas Horse Racing Management, said: "He has a very funny side to his nature and is a very endearing type of horse. In fact, he’s the stable mascot! He loves travelling and is indifferent to the state of the ground. His limitations are somewhat exposed in the very top company, and so he will probably have a quiet winter." Antoine de Watrigant, the winning trainer, added: "It’s great. He’s a grand type of a horse and an avid traveller. He was very well ridden by Ioritz Mendizabal, and his toughness needs to come into play. His greatest quality lies in the fact that he’s very tough. Being very lucky, I will get to train him again next year when we will again aspire to delivering good results. Aoun is a typical case of a horse moulded and shaped by his racing, and one that has recorded steady improvement.”

The brother of Haajeb. Aoun, a son of Mahhab, carries the clear stamp of the breeding academy of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zahyed Al Nahyan. The dam Shumoos (Djouras Tu) has also produced Haajeb (Mawood), an easy winner of the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 (Gr1 PA) in the colours of Sheikh Mansoor. Sheena (Djelfor), the grandam, is a full sister to the renowned stallion Akbar (Djelfor). Sheena is the source of three class acts and namely: the stallion Shadiyda (Al Sakbe) whose eight career wins comprised the Emirates Championship (Gr1 PA); Thakif (Mahabb), successful in the President Cup, the National Day Cup (Gr1 PA) and the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 (Gr1s PA); plus Raaziq (Munjiz), the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 (Gr1 PA) hero. This is the line of Fantasia (Gosse du Béarn), one of the foundation mares of the French PA breeding scene.
