Premier Gagnant de Groupe

pour Dalakhani

Samedi 26 avril, Sandown (GB). C’est Centennial qui est devenu le premier produit de Dalakhani (Darshaan) à gagner Groupe.

Le fait d’arme a eu lieu à Sandown dans le Classic Trial local (Gr3). John

Gosden a toujours tenu en haute estime ce poulain. A 2ans, il l’avait aligné au

départ du Prix Thomas Bryon (Gr3) où seul Thewayyouare

(Kingmambo) avait pu le précéder. Logique prospect au Derby d’Epsom (Gr1), le

poulain n’est pas encore arrivé à maturité d’après son mentor. Le futur passe

par d’autres préparatoires au Derby comme les Dante Stakes (Gr2) ou le Trial

(Gr3) de Lingfield pour tester la tenue de Centennial (voir déclarations de

John Gosden dans l’analyse de la course).

Après

avoir gagné à Newmarket et Newbury l’été dernier, Centennial (Dalakhani) avait

conclu sa campagne de 2ans par un valorisant premier accessit derrière

Thewayyouare (Kingmambo) dans le Prix Thomas Bryon (Gr3), quelques semaines

avant que celui-ci ne remporte le Critérium International (Gr1). Installé en tête

à l’ouverture des stalles, Centennial a ensuite résisté dans la montée finale

au retour de Whistledownwind. « J’étais content de sa préparation sachant

qu’il avait besoin de cette course aujourd’hui, a commenté son entraîneur John

Gosden. Jimmy Fortune a dit avoir trouvé les 100 derniers mètres un peu longs

surtout parce qu’il était sur la mauvaise portion de terrain. Sa mère était

« vite » mais j’ai aimé la façon dont il s’est battu et je pense

qu’il pourra aussi tenir les 2.400m. Mais c’est un cheval qui est encore en

train de progresser et, à cette époque de l’année, les 2.000m sont sa limite

maximale. Les Dante Stakes (Gr2) [sur 2.100m à York le 15 mai, ndlr] sont à

présent une option envisageable tout comme le Lingfield Derby Trial (Gr3) [le

10 mai sur 2.300m].

Cadeaux (Cadeaux Généreux) est connu en France pour avoir pris la 5^e

place l’an dernier du Prix Maurice de Gheest (Gr1) sur 1.300m à Deauville. Ce

samedi, il a été placé en queue du petit peloton et il a répondu facilement aux

sollicitations de Richard Hughes aux 400m et a pris la mesure de Roy Rob. On

parle maintenant des Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes (Gr1) à Newbury (le 17 mai) pour

le lauréat alors que Roy Rob pourrait être vu dans le Prix d’Ispahan (Gr1) à

Longchamp le 18 mai.

avait remporté l’Oppenheim-Union-Rennen (Gr2) à Cologne en juin dernier mais

n’avait pu ensuite se présenter dans le Derby allemand (GR1) en raison d’un

terrain trop lourd à Hambourg. Réorienté à Longchamp dans Grand Prix de Paris

(Gr1) le 14 juillet, il avait obtenu la 2^e place derrière Zambezi

Sun (Dansili) avant de conclure 5^e du Grand Prix de Baden (Gr1) en

septembre. Il avait terminé sa saison par une 2^e place dans un

Groupe 3 à Hoppegarten en octobre. Ce samedi, il a été monté de manière

offensive par Terence Hellier. A côté du leader, il a pris rapidement les

devants ensuite pour résister sans problème aux pressions de Selmis (Selkirk)

et de Golden Titus (Titus Livius).

Efisio a été placée à l’arrière au début et a été aidée par le rythme soutenu

imprimé par Melody Break. Fairy Efisio a eu besoin de toute la ligne droite

pour remonter sa rivale mais le timing de Dario Vargiu était parfait et elle a

finalement pris le meilleur aux abords du poteau.

GOSDEN PAIR BUILD UP

   John Gosden yesterday issued an upbeat bulletin on his weekend

Guineas contenders Raven's Pass (Elusive Quality) and Infallible (GB) (Pivotal

{GB}). Stonerside Stable's G3 Solario S. winner was runner-up in the G3 Craven

S. at Newmarket 10 days ago, 24 hours after Cheveley Park Stud's homebred

Infallible had captured the meeting's G3 Nell Gwyn S. "They both worked

yesterday and Infallible did a lovely piece of work, skipping two or three

lengths clear of another under Jimmy [Fortune]," he said. "It wasn't

demanding, just a nice exercise as she's inclined to look about in the clear. I

was happy with her and she cantered this morning, while Raven's Pass breezed

solidly over about seven and a half furlongs on the Al Bahathri gallop. He was

very comfortable doing that and cantered this morning."

NATAGORA READY

   Stefan Friborg's Natagora (Fr) (Divine Light {Jpn}) was reported

firmly on course for Sunday's G1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. Having come through

her prep in Maisons-Laffitte's Listed Prix Imprudence in smooth fashion Apr.

14, last year's G1 Cheveley Park S. winner and G1 Prix Morny runner-up will line

up as one of the favorites for the mile Classic. "Everything is under

control following her reappearance and she went quietly on the grass again on

Wednesday," the owner's Racing Manager Patrick Barbe commented. "It

was just an easy canter and she is happy--eating well and training well. All

the lights are green and we hope for the best. She won very easily in the Prix

Imprudence, especially as the ground was against her. On the other hand, the

heavy going probably made it more of a stamina test. In that testing ground,

the distance, while not quite equivalent to a mile at Newmarket, was close to

it. I don't think we have any doubts about her getting the mile at Newmarket.

The dam is by Linamix and the second dam is by Margouillat, so she has a lot of

stamina in the pedigree." Ground conditions could be on the testing side

by the weekend after a wet forecast. Clerk of the Course and Director of Racing

Michael Prosser revealed that the current description is good to firm and

added, "The weather is beautiful today, breezy and sunny, but the forecast

is unsettled. There is currently rain forecast every day from tomorrow through

to Friday."
