by Haras des Granges

Situated in

the Gers (in the south-west of France), Haras des Granges is run by Mathieu

Daguzan-Garros, who is the fourth generation of his family to breed horses on

this land.

?e farm has specialised in breeding

thoroughbreds since the 1950s and has produced such champions in the past as

Cadoudal and Balbonella, the dam of Anabaa.

?eir more recent successes come in

the form of Torrestrella (Orpen), winner of the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches,

and Kendargent (Kendor), second in the Prix Paul de Moussac (Gr3) and now

standing at stud. Mathieu Daguzan-Garros chose to speak to us about a yearling

colt from the family of Shamalgan (Footstepsinthesand), Gr2 winner in Germany

and third in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr1):

?is colt is the first foal out of Last Cast, who won well as a two-year-old

before experiencing health problems. She is a sister to

Genevale (Unfuwain), the dam of Shamalgan, and also to

Guajira (Mtoto), the dam of Gabrial (Dark Angel), who

finished fi?h in the St James’s Palace Stakes

(Gr1) and third in

the Sussex Stakes (Gr1) on Wednesday. He is a strong olt, with

good bone and he will improve even more once the

sales have

passed. His sire, Lawman, has had some very good three-year-olds,

including Most Improved, winner of the St

James’s Palace Stakes.”
