AL RUWAIS - AF MAQAYES FROM PILLAR TO POST

ABU DHABI (UAE), 5th February 2017

Gr. III PA, 4yos+, 1,000m, AED300,000

Very fast, Af Maqayes UAE (Af Al Buraq) won from pillar to post over the 1,000 metres track of the Al Ruwais (Gr. III PA). Quick in front, the Ali Rashid Al Raihe trained horse never let himself approach in the finale phase. He finished in front of, Ain Jaloot UAE (Amer) and Rb So Rich US (Th Richie), in this order.

Not a complicated horse

Winning jockey, the Irish Tadhg O’Shea was very happy with Af Maqayes, who was running on the track on which he won beforehand: There are no races over this distance for the Purebred Arabians in his level at the start of the season, so he had to run over the longer distances, which was a pity. Sprinting is his game, and he loves the grass here. He has a lot of speed, quickens up and he’s a pleasure to ride. He’s very, very genuine and very straightforward.”

The family of Muraaqib

Af Maqayes is currently the best product of Af Abad UAE (Madour). His third dam, Lafana (Shawani), gave birth to Shade (Medicq Allah), the third dam of François Rohaut’s champion, Muraaqib (Munjiz), winner of the Al Rayyan Cup - Prix Kesberoy, Qatar Total Arabian Trophy des Poulains and the Shadwell Dubai International Stakes (Gr. I PAs).
