EMIRATES CHAMPIONSHIP - MAHBOOBA WINS HIS FIRST GROUP I PA

ABU DHABI (UAE), 19th March 2017

Gr. I PA, 5yos+, 2,200m, AED 1,000,000

At ease on Abu Dhabi’s track, Mahbooba FR (Bibi de Carrère) won the nicest race of her career by imposing herself in the Emirates Championship (Gr. I PA). This mare, trained by Éric Lemartinel, who had lost all her chances by missing her start in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round III (Gr. I PA) and the President Cup (Gr. I PA), had an excellent start this time and was placed amongst the first ones. Eight thousand meters from the post, she still had no opening and her jockey had to wait. The Bibi de Carrère daughter then quickly made a difference, taking the advantage 500 meters from the post and winning by three lengths. She defeated her training companion Nashmee FR (Akbar), offering a nice double win for the presidential silks of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Frenchman’s training. Babel d’Aillas FR (Dahess) completes the podium and the three of them are French breds. Éric Lemartinel said: “Mahbooba had excuses for her two last runs, she started well this time and Tadgh [editor's note: O’Shea, her jockey] took a good position in the race, in order to allow her to win in a convincing way.”

A great maternal family, the one of Câlin de Louve and Chéri Bibi

Mahbooba is the best product of Nevada du Loup (Manganate). Her second dam, Nivada (Flipper), is at the origin of several good horses. She gave birth to Kâline du Loup (Djouras Tu), the dam of the Darley champion Câlin de Louve (Djelfor), winner of eight races in a row in the United States including two Gr. I PAs, and of Étoile du Loup (Blaise), who produced the winner of the first edition of the Qatar Arabian World Cup (Gr. I PA), Lahib (Kairouan de Jos), but also Sophie du Loup (Manganate), winner of ten races in England including the Dubai International Stakes. This maternal family is the one of Nevada II (Djanor), the dam of the crack Chéri Bibi (Baroud III).
