Gr. III PA - 4yos and up- 1,400m - € 20,000

Despite a track that did not favour hold-up horses, especially over this particular distance of 1,400 meters, Mabrooka (Mahabb) showed her sharp finishing speed to win the Prix Damas (Gr. III PA) and remain unbeaten this season from two starts.

Sat in last position, in her usual running style, the protégée of Didier Guillemin was ridden patiently in the hands of Alexandre Gavilan. The small field, led by Lwsail (Amer), who was followed on her inside by Al Mounteze Monlau (Nashwan Al Khalidiah), came out of the final turn still in this order. Coming up on the outside, Mabrooka made up ground meter by meter in the closing stages, winning by a neck in front of a courageous Lwsail. Rawah (Amer) snatched third place at the last second, in front of Al Mounteze Monlau.

Although it was only a small winning margin, the style was there. Mabrooka was still gaining ground crossing the line, and always looked like the winner. It was a relief to her trainer Didier Guillemin who had been worried that the profile of the track at Dax wouldn’t suit her running style. He said: “She won well, but there wasn’t much margin for error. Everything had to come right for her. She is a class above the other horses, even though she didn’t win by 100 meters. I am happy all the same. We should be seeing her back at La Teste-de-Buch in a month’s time [editor's note: Shadwell Critérium des Pouliches, Gr. II PA, 1,900m].”

A full sister to Rakha

By Shamayl (Kesberoy), Mabrooka is a sister to some very smart horses, such as her full sister Rakha, winner of the French Arabian Breeders’ Challenge for Fillies (L PA) and the Liwa Oasis (Gr. I PA), and also Baraaqa (Sire d’Albret), second to the champion filly Kiss de Ghazal again in the Qatar French Arabian Breeders’ Challenge for Fillies (L PA), in 2010.

The second dam, Kâline du Loup (Djouras Tu), foaled Câlin de Louve (Djelfor) who won the Arabian Jockey Club Derby and the Arabian Cup Stakes (Grs I PA). This branch of the Nevada II (Djanor) bloodline comes from the breeding operation of Jean-Marc Saphores, where Chéri Bibi (Baroud III) also originated.
