Handassa and Taajer to stud

Shadwell has announced two new Purebred Arabian stallions to join their ranks.

Handassa (Madjani) will begin his stallion career at West Kington Stud, in England. His full brother Taajer (Madjani) will stand in Italy at the Societa Agricola di Besnate.

Under the care of François Rohaut, Handassa competed at the top level in France, in the United Arab Emirates, in Turkey, in Holland, and in the United Kingdom. At 4 years old, he finished second in the French Arabian Breeders’ Challenge Classic (Gr. III PA) and third in the Doha Cup (Gr. I PA). The following year, at 5 years old, Handassa won the International IFAHR Trophy (Gr. II PA) and finished third in the Shadwell Dubai International Stakes (Gr. I PA). At the age of 6, he won two Group races, the Al Maktoum Challenge Round III (Gr. I PA) and the International IFAHR Trophy (Gr. II PA). In 2017, at the age of 7, Handassa won the Al Maktoum Challenge Round III (Gr. I PA) and, once again, the International IFAHR Trophy (Gr. II PA).

Clean and sound

François Rohaut commented: "Handassa has a lot of character. He is a horse with an impressive physique and an exceptional turn of foot. He raced to victory on the turf as well as on the polytrack and on dirt. Handassa finished his racing career clean and sound. He is a real racehorse." Paolo Crespi, from Societa Agricola di Besnate, said: "Taajer is a very interesting stallion, with a fantastic pedigree that fits perfectly to both racing and endurance." Richard Lancaster, the director of Shadwell, elaborated: "It is great pride for our team to welcome two Shadwell-bred stallions, by the exceptional sire Madjani. We now hope that they will follow their sire’s footsteps at stud. Standing respectively in the UK and Italy, we are pleased to increase our support to breeders in those countries."

A solid pedigree

Handassa and Taajer are out of Ziva (Dormane), winner of the Hatta International Stakes (Gr. I PA) and trained by Jean-Marc de Watrigant. She is also the dam of Jamaheer (Mahabb), who won the Critérium des Pouliches (Gr. II PA) and the Prix Nevadour (Gr. III PA), followed by a close second in the Arabian Trophy des Juments (Gr. I PA). Ziva is a daughter of the Champion mare Cherifa (Chéri Bibi). She is the dam of numerous Group I PA winners, such as Djebbel (Djelfor), Djelmila (Manganate), Majd Al Arab (Amer), Cherazade (Dormane) and Mushrae (Munjiz)… The French bloodline is that of Magicienne (Nedjanor), dam of influential sires Dormane (Manganate), Manganate (Saint Laurent) and a very good horse owned by Sheikh Hamdan, Manark (Mahabb), winner of multiple Group PA races, including the Dubai Kahayla Classic (Gr. I PA) in 2015.
