QATAR INTERNATIONAL CUP - MOLHEB AL NAIF EARNS HIS SPOT IN THE PUREBRED ARABIAN ARC

DOHA (QAT), 24th FEBRUARY 2018

Gr. I PA - 4 year olds and over - 1,600m - QR 912,500

Molheb Al Naif (Amer) took his sixth successive victory and his first Group win in the Qatar International Cup (Gr. I PA). He is one of the best 'Qatar bred' Arabians that has been seen on the track in recent years.

After having travelled wide and up near the leader, the eventual winner took the lead 300 meters out. Under encouragement from Gérald Avranche, Molheb Al Naif pulled clear before holding off a strong finish from François Rohaut’s runner, Ateej (AF AlBahar). The "FR" Carab (Majd Al Arab), bred by Haras du Bosquet, finished third.

INTERNATIONAL AMBITIONS

Yousef Ben Taher Mehaoued, a Tunisian trainer who has been based in Qatar for many years, spoke about his winning charge: "This horse was born here, near to Doha, which isn’t easy due to the climate. This victory, against a high class international opposition, proves that he is very good indeed. In the beginning, when Molhed Al Naif first arrived in the yard, he was quite difficult, as he was very spooky, particularly in the closing stages of a race. We got him back on the right track with Gérald Avranche. He has ridden him in his last eight races for six wins. Due to his antics on the track, he doesn’t always run to the best of his abilities. He has been very competitive over a mile. We will look abroad for races for him. He will probably have to step up in trip. Molhed Al Naif will spend the summer in France before eventually aiming towards the Qatar Arabian World Cup, even though the distance, over 2,000 meters, is a bit too long for him. He has a tendency to be keen in the first 500 or 600 meters. However in the big race at Longchamp, there is plenty of pace and he has earned the right to take part."

INCREASING STRENGTH IN LOCAL BREEDING

Bred in Qatar by Al Naif Stud, Molheb Al Naif has an exceptional pedigree. He is a son of the great sire Amer, and his dam, Kesbah (Kesberoy), won four races, in Italy and Qatar. She is a full sister to Keyrac and the dam of Kepassa (Akbar), winner of the Prix Al Sakbe (Gr. III PA). The third dam is also the dam of Vanessa de Carrère (Manganate), winner of the Dubaï Stakes and third in the Coupe d’Europe du Cheval Arabe (Gr. I PA) as well as Baccara de Carrère (Djourman), third in the Abu Dhabi International (Gr. I PA) at Kempton.
