DUBAI KAHAYLA CLASSIC - THE IMPERIAL TALLABB AL KHALEDIAH
MEYDAN (UAE), 31st March 2018
Gr. I PA - 5 year olds and over - 2,000m - USD 1,000,000
Tallabb Al Khalediah (Jalood Al Khalidiah) put in an imperial performance for his first attempt over this distance. Crossing the line strongly, despite somewhat hanging to his right, he won the Dubai Kahayla Classic (Gr. I PA) in a record time. He finished in front of Chaddad (Mared Al Sahra), in a surprise performance, and the very consistent Barnamaj (No Risk Al Maury). Having threatened the winner when coming up the rail, Mawahib (Abu Alemarat) ultimately finished in fourth place. Tallabb Al Khalediah is trained by Mutlaq bin Mashref for His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.

A RECORD TIME
Unbeaten in his home country of Saudi Arabia, Tallabb Al Khalediah has won all of his five starts. His was coming off a prestigious win at home in the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Cup, a race that is worth a million dollars, in which Mawahib had ejected his jockey from the saddle when leaving the gates. This was his first win at this level, as it also was for his jockey, the Panama native Roberto Perez, who rides at Riyad the rest of the year. Tallabb Al Khalidiah won in a time of 2’13’’68, eclipsing the previous record (2’15’’45) set by Af Mathmoon (Af Albahar) in 2016. The winning jockey, Roberto Perez, said: "I am so happy. I have ridden him in all his races, and this is the horse’s second big win. Once I hit the front, I knew that I had to keep a bit under the hood as he had never run further than 1.800m, and we had an extra 200m to run today. His bridle came undone last time out, but I managed to get it back on, and we changed one or two things today so that it wouldn’t happen again."
GOOD RUNS FROM CHADDAD AND BARNAMAJ
Oisin Murphy, the jockey onboard the second, Chaddad, was satisfied with his result: "He ran a first class race. He started out slowly then finished well. It was a good race, and he’s the best Purebred Arabian that I have ridden."
Jim Crowley, who finished third with Barnamaj, underlined his partner's regularity: "He hasn’t been out of the first three all season, and he ran really well again today. We were bumped a bit, but it didn’t make any difference to the result in the end."
INCONCLUSIVE TEST RUNS
Respectively seventh and eighth, Nafees (Azadi) and Bandar (Munjiz) never looked comfortable on the dirt, on which they were running for the first time, with the kickback and the quick pace. They did not run to their true form however, so one can draw a line through these performances. The favorite Ziyadd (Bibi de Carrère) finished in sixth place and did not look like the same horse that had dominated his prep.
AN AMERICAN BLOODLINE WELL KNOWN IN FRANCE
Tallabb Al Khalediah is out of Siehame (Dormane), whose racing career was spent in the United Arab Emirates, winning her maiden at Abu Dhabi. His second dam is the American-bred CR Samborsta (Sambor), who was a remarkable competitor, winning seven races in the United States, including the Ajc Delaware Oaks (Gr. I PA). She was also a first-class broodmare, and is the dam of five stakes horses, such as Dariya (Dormane), an eight-time winner, including the Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes (Gr. I PA) at Chantilly, and of Sahlambo (Munjiz), winner of seven races including the Critérium des Pouliches (Gr. II PA) at La Teste-de-Buch. Siehame has three full-sisters who are broodmares in France; Assrar (owned by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan), Siheme (Patrick Saint Martin) and Syrianah (Patrick Saint Martin).
