PRIX CHÉRI BIBI - NEEF IS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER

LA TESTE-DE-BUCH (FRA), 8th September 2018

Gr. III PA - 3 year olds - Colts & geldings - 1,900m - € 25,000

Made favourite on the strength of a prior course win in the Prix Akbar over Sea Bird Al Maury (Mijdadd), events panned out in such a way that Neef (General) found himself in front.

Consequently, he dictated his own terms under Olivier Peslier. Given a ‘breather’ by his experienced rider, Neef raised the stakes half-way up the straight. This enabled him to contain

Sea Bird Al Maury, although the latter eventually lost second to Bel’Izam (Nizam). The latter

finished at a rate of knots after bringing up the rear. Owned by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Neef opened his Group account at his first attempt.

ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE QATAR ARABIAN TROPHY DES POULAINS

Following the win Didier Guillemin told us: "Olivier Peslier gave Neef a remarkable ride.

The jockey wasn’t instructed to make the running but, in view of the lack of pace and seeing that the colt was a bit keen, he took it up himself to dictate his own terms up front. He managed to slow things down a notch in the straight which enabled the combination to win in good style. Neef was courageous and he allowed his rider take him back and keep something in reserve. Neef was cantering in the straight – in marked contrast to his rivals which were being scrubbed along. He was breathing hard after the race for a while but otherwise won fairly cosily. He confirmed what he had shown on a previous course win at the track and, if anything, the win was even more convincing. He’s a very attractive colt in the classical mould, and with a kind and calm temperament to boot. He is being aimed at the big three-year-old race at Saint-Cloud and his star is very much on the rise." Olivier Peslier told Equidia: "We had planned to hold him up but, once in front, he relaxed and it worked out well. He was keen in the early stages and that is why I allowed him to stride on. Once he accelerated in the straight, the race was as good as won."

THE BROTHER OF RAQIYAH

Neef was bred by his owner, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani at the Haras du Grand Courgeon. The dam Sarahmina (Tornado de Syrah) made a winning ‘French’ debut for Jean-Pierre Totain before being exported to Qatar. A remarkable broodmare, she is the dam of a number of class acts and notably Raqiyah (Amer). The latter’s thirteen successes included The President of the UAE Cup - Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes, the Qatar International Trophy, The President of the UAE Cup - Coupe d’Europe des Chevaux Arabes  (twice) and The President of the UAE Cup - UK Arabian Derby (Gr.  Is PA) at Ascot. One can also cite the example of the ten times winning Tameemah (Amer). The distaffer distinguished herself in the Sprinter Championship (Gr. III PA) at Doha. She also filled third in the Qatar French Arabian Breeders’ Challenge pour Pouliches de 4 ans  and the NBD Hatta International Stakes (Gr. Is PA) at Newbury. The great-grandam Bavette (Dunixi) generated Prince d’Orient (Manganate: the winner of the Prix d’Abu Dhabi (Gr. I PA) and the Président des UAE (Gr. I PA). This is the family of Dahor de Brugère (Dahess), whose six wins comprised the Al Rayyan Cup and the Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes (Gr. Is PA).
