PRIX NEVADA II - BASEEL CEMENTS HER PLACE AS THE LEADING FILLY OF HER GENERATION

LA TESTE-DE-BUCH (FRA), 8th September 2018

Gr. III PA - 3 year olds - Females - 1,900m - € 25,000

A hot favourite for the Prix Nevada II (Gr. III PA), Baseel (Munjiz) again showed her superiority by asserting a touch cosily despite the small margin of victory. Trained by Xavier Thomas-Demeaulte on behalf of Yas Horse Racing Management, she is now unbeaten in three starts, having won twice at La Teste-De-Buch. The long-time leader, Maraasem (Akim de Ducor), kept on gamely to the bitter end but was powerless to contain the winner. The held-up Fortuna Al Maury (No Risk Al Maury), having capitalised after a gap opened up along the rails, was noted running on strongly. It was a good performance on just her second start. Her rider, Olivier Peslier, opined that that she was "still a bit green" but the photo did at least show that she had deprived Bayan of third.

FULL STEAM AHEAD TO THE QATAR ARABIAN TROPHY DES POULICHES

In the wake of the win of his protegée, Xavier Thomas-Demeaulte said: "She’s a filly which has never disappointed. She was very green on her debut but has grown up mentally since. In physical terms she is also a lot stronger than before. She wasn’t blowing after the race and is being aimed at the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches (Gr. I PA) at Saint-Cloud on October 5th." The current indicators are that Baseel will start favourite for this Group I PA race. Thierry Delègue, the manager of Yas Horse Racing, added: "She has won in good style granted that the slow tempo had the potential to find her out. Baseel took time to warm to her task before showing a neat turn of foot and, all things told, she won with something in hand. This was a prep race for the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches, on the eve of the Arc de Triomphe meeting. Saint-Cloud should suit her as it is a little more selective as a track. Regarding Bayan, she took her time before buckling down to the nitty gritty and should run well in the above mentioned Group I PA race at Saint-Cloud where the longer trip shouldn’t inconvenience her,  on the contrary. She is inexperienced and the aim of the exercise wasn’t to be hard on her. Clearly, this is also a filly with a bright future."

A GRANDAUGHTER OF CR SAMBORSTA

Bred by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Baseel is the best product of her dam Assrar (Dormane). The latter won both her two initial career starts in France. The grandam Cr Samborsta (Sambor) was a seven times winner in the US where her victories took in the AJC Delaware Oaks (Gr. I PA). Her broodmare record is exceptional as five of her products in went on to gain black type in the first generation and notably: Dariya (Dormane), the winner of eight races, including the Zaabeel International Stakes and the Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes (Grs I PA); Sahlambo (Munjiz) – whose seven wins included the Critérium des Pouliches (Gr. II PA) ; Saher (Tornado de Syrah) – third in the Prix Tidjani (Gr. III PA) ; Samjida (Majd Al Arab) – third in the French Arabian Breeders' Challenge (Gr. III PA) ; and Syrianah (Dormane) – placed in the French Arabian Breeders' Challenge and the Prix Ourour (L PA). Cr Samborsta is also the grandam of Tallaab Al Khalediah (Jalood Al Khalidiah), the impressive winner of the Dubai Kahayla Classic at Meydan (Gr. I PA).
