SHEIKH MANSOOR FESTIVAL - PRIX NEFTA-DORMANE: Amyr du Soleil is in a class of his own

BORDEAUX (FR), MAY 23rd, 2020

Gr2 PA - 4-year-olds – 1,900m (9 1/2f) - €30,000

The top 3-year-old of 2019, Amyr du Soleil (Amer) confirmed that he’s a cut above his generation in the wake of a dominant display, which yielded a very easy return success in the Sheikh Mansoor Festival - Prix Nefta-Dormane (Gr2 PA). The 4-year-old has all the hallmarks of being a champion. Amyr du Soleil loves to make the running and he set out to make every post a winning in this small field, having been tracked by Jarif (Dahess) on his inside and Zalej Al Cham (Azadi) on his outer. On leaving the final bend, Amyr du Soleil turned on the style by pulling clear and winning unopposed. The filly Artemis (Azadi) annexed second and this enabled His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani to complete a 1-2. Jarif was third.

Yet to achieve his full potential. Thomas Fourcy, the winning trainer, said: "Julien Augé

said that the horse has moved up a level compared to last season. He’s proving to be more relaxed as the gates open. He’s going to be a very good horse. He’s being aimed at the Derby des Pur-Sang Arabes de 4 ans. He wasn’t fully wound up for this, but I wasn’t going to ask any more of him. The fly in the ointment is that potential opponents may shy away from taking him on, and that could prove something of a snag during the rest of his career. He has toughened up during the course of this year, having also muscled up during the winter. He has therefore become more powerful physically and that can serve to make him a champion if we take our time with him. He has yet to cross swords with the older PA brigade, and horses of the calibre of Ebraz (Amer,) who is the same ownership. That is on the cards at the end of the year."

Hailing from the line of Dahor de Brugère and Mahess du Soleil. Amyr du Soleil was bred by Lisa and Pierre Deymonaz. The dam Balladore (Dormane) is a full sister of Dormah de Brugère. The latter won seven races, including the Jumeirah International Stakes and the Arabian International Stakes (Gr2s PA). The great grandam is the much celebrated Bergeronnette (Djouran), whose record in the breeding shed is symptomatic of the great success enjoyed by the mares which we readily associate with the ‘Pompadour’ line. The Bergeronnette name is very visible in the first, second and third generations of the pedigrees of numerous black type performers such as Dahor de Brugère (Dahess) and Mahess du Soleil (Dahess)… Amyr du Soleil and Artemis were sold to Al Shahania Stud by Paul Basquin. During the winter, these two horses spent time at the Haras du Saubouas. The idea was that a period of rest would yield maximum benefits in terms of physical and mental development during the all-important transition period from three to four.
