BANI YAS (Gr2 PA): JAYIDE AL BORAQ RECORDS AN HISTORIC WIN

MEYDAN (UAE), NOVEMBER 19th 2020

Gr2 PA - 4-year-olds and up - 1,400m - €23,673

After scoring a return success on the Al Ain dirt where he is undefeated in six attempts, Jayide Al Boraq (Burning Sand) again proved untouchable on this surface after eclipsing the

the favourite RB Money to Burn (Majd Al Arab) in the Bani Yas (Gr2 PA) on his first outing at Meydan. Jayide Al Boraq is trained by Khalifa Al Neyadi on behalf of the Al Rahmani Racing Stable. He’s also the first horse born and bred in Morocco to win at this level in the United Arab Emirates.

Successful in the 2019 edition of Al Maktoum Challenge (Gr1 PA), RB Money to Burn took the race by the scruff of the neck, as she loves doing, by making the running and powering her way to a five lengths lead on hitting the straight. The Éric Lemartinel mare, however, weakened in the final 100 meters, which enabled the surge of Jayide Al Boraq to bear fruit after a waiting race on the rails. He sealed matters in the final 50 meters, whereas RB Money to Burn easily held second. Af Alwajel (Af Al Buraq), having tracked the leading group, ran on for third.

A DREAM COME TRUE

The winning jockey, Brazilian Bernardo Pinheiro, now in his fourth season in the UAE, was ecstatic and he said: "It's a dream come true to be able to ride a Group winner for the people who have supported me during the last four years. He’s an incredible horse and has only twice tasted defeat in his career, when racing on grass. He proved today that he can hold his own with the best. »

Behind a wall of horses on the rails, Jayide Al Boraq hardly seemed to be in the best position to catch the runaway. The jockey added:  "I was confident. I thought we could have been closer to the pace during the race, but, after making a good start, other horses in the race showed more speed than my mount. I felt the horse needed me to take him in hand, and he was also gracing this track for the first time. Halfway down the final bend, I was worried because the mare was alone in front, and nobody seemed capable of living with her, but I felt that we could at least finish second. I was happy that he was finally able to nail the win."

Looking ahead, the jockey opined "a further 200 metres won’t prove a problem but I doubt that he will stay beyond a mile."

HAILING FROM A DISTINGUISHED FRENCH MATERNAL LINE

Jayide Al Moraq successfully flew the flag for the Moroccan breeding operation of Anas Jamai Ghizlani (Haras Al Boraq). He boasts the paternity of the crack US sire Burning Sand (San Lou Romirz). Although, the dam, N’Explosive Al Maury (Zippy Al Maury), is quintessentially French, as she descends from one of the great Gallic PA breeding lines:

Nevada II (Djanor). Also discernible in the pedigree is the presence (great grandam) of Nevadour (Ourour), a remarkable broodmare whose descendants cemented their place among the elite PA performers and for this read: DahessBibi de CarrèreKaolinoKandar du FalgasNivour de CardonneRubis de CarrèreNez d'OrNoreenSivit Al Maury and Sylvine Al Maury...
