French Arabian Breeders Challenge Classic - H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan: Hayyan rediscovers his mojo

Toulouse (FR), October 26th, 2021

Gr1 PA - 4 years-old & up - 2,200m (11f) - €45.000

Hayyan (Munjiz) added a fourth Gr1 PA win to his CV after capturing the French Arabian Breeders' Challenge Classic (Gr1 PA). The Yas Horse Racing Management runner was coming off a fifth in the Doha Cup (Gr1 PA) at Deauville on August 10th. He had also lapped up the winter sun by finishing third in the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown, before disappointing in the Dubai Kahayla Classic (Grs1 PA). Hayyan’s previous win dates back to June 27th, when he landed the Premio Milano - UAE President Cup Stakes (Gr2 PA) in Milan. After initially racing in last position under Ioritz Mendizabal, the future winner adopted a waiting brief, although he did appear a little flat-footed down the backstretch, as Soko (Nieshan) tried to make all. However, on the final turn, the Frederic Sanchez protégé made good headway by moving up to third, which took him within striking distance of the lead. His ability to quicken at the sharp end enabled him to draw upsides the front running Soko. Despite hanging right in mid-stretch, and showing a tendency to idle once in front, he prevailed by a short head. Always in the vanguard of the race, Soko did everything possible to retrieve the situation but to no avail... although his was a much improved effort after running a stinker in the Qatar Arabian World Cup (Gr1 PA). Hm Al Saked (Azadi) was seven and a half lengths further adrift in third.

In the aftermath, Ioritz Mendizabal, the winning jockey, told the Equidia channel: "He's a bit of a rascal as the horse had plenty left in the tank when he came to win his race, but idled once in front. I was fully aware of this. Half-way round the final bend, I tried to hang on to Hayyan. However, I had so much horse under me. So I made a forward move on him.  Going to the final 100m, I was a bit apprehensive but the best horse won. The horse was in splendid condition and had been trained with this Gr1 PA race in mind. So it was imperative not to miss the target…"

A son of the exceptional Dahwa. Hayyan hails from one of Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan's finest bloodlines. The dam, Dahwa (Tidjani), won the Prix de l'Élevage (Gr2 PA). Her first foal, Thabit (Munjiz), won the Coupe du Sud-Ouest (Gr3 PA). Her second product, Bandar (Munjiz), took the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 (Gr1 PA).                                Her third offering, Najah (Munjiz), landed both the Prix Nefta (Gr2 PA) and the French Arabian Breeders' Challenge-Pouliches (Gr2 PA). The latter also took minor honours in the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches (Gr1 PA). Hayyan is the fourth foal of Dahwa. Teema (Bibi de Carrère), her fifth offspring and third in the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches, won the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Juments (Grs1 PA)                                                                    In excess of 15 black type performers descend from the grandam, Amidou Douzaia (Chéri Bibi), at either first or second generation level. We can allude to Abhaar (Al Nasr): the winner of the Emirates Championship (Gr1 PA); Naseem (Mahabb): successful in the Al Maktoum Challenge R1 and the President Cup (Grs1 PA); Shahm (Mahabb): the President of the UAE Cup - Coupe d’Europe des Chevaux Arabes hero: plus the outstanding Deryan (Mahabb), whose roll of honour comprises the Coupe d'Europe des Chevaux Arabes and the Dubai Kahayla Classic (Grs1 PA)... A list that is far from being exhaustive!
