Kerless del Roc leaves his rivals flat-footed

Kerless del Roc leaves his rivals flat-footed

Meydan (AE), December 16th, 2021
The Madjani Stakes

Gr2 PA - 4-year-olds & up - 1,900m (9 1/2F) - AED 97,500

The winner of three races on the Al Ain dirt, Kerless del Roc (Dahess), made no mistake when tackling a similar surface on his Meydan debut. Indeed, he left his nearest rival toiling five lengths in his wake on reaching the winning post in the Madjani Stakes (Gr2 PA). The Al Rahmani Racing runner should logically step up to Gr1 PA class on this evidence.

The fastest away from the stalls, Kerless de Roc took the lead, and he was tracked by the rail running Rajeh (Jaafer) and the unbeaten Hameem (Valiant Boy), who kept the former company in second following a two wide trip. The pace wasn’t over-taxing and Kerless de Roc gradually increased the tempo on the final turn, before making a decisive move at the beginning of the straight. Such was superiority that he was never to be headed. The running-on Harrab (Bibi de Carrère) finished well in the straight to take second place on the inside, whereas the Gr1 PA winning Rajeh held third. Hameem could do no better than finish at the foot of the podium, after being unsuccessfully (the longest trip he has ever tackled) tried over 1900m. Consequently, his winning streak of seven consecutive victories – over trips ranging from 1,400m (7f) to 1,600m (1m) – was snapped.

The Kahayla Classic: a possibility.  The winning jockey Fernando Jara told our Dubai Racing TV colleagues: "Kerless del Roc won a race of note today, and he was obviously very finely tuned for this. He has some cruising speed, and I wanted to capitalise on this by making the running so as not to run into any traffic problems. He impressed me last year when I rode him, and I was keen to see how he would fare this season. He is really starting to come into his own, and they’ve done a fantastic job with this horse. Of course, we're toying with the idea of heading to the Dubai Kahayla Classic (Gr1 PA) with him, but he's still got some points to prove, which will entail him tackling other races."

The brother of a Listed winner in Morocco. Kerless del Roc was bred in France by Marie-Christine Restes. He is a son of Dahess (Amer), a stallion resident at the Haras de Thouars, where he stands on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing. His dam, Kerlia des Pins (Kerbella), was unraced. However, she has produced Kerssi del Roc (Kasih), the winner of the Prix Al Karaouiyene (L PA, 1,850m), at El Jadida. The grandam, Selia Lotoise (Tidjani), performed well in endurance racing after previously running on the flat, and the mare produced the stallion Sahess Lotois (Dahess): a CEI3* 160 km class performer in the endurance sector.
